About Akagi
Akagi Foods Co. Ltd. (Akagi Shokuhin) is a leading Japanese producer of dry noodles and pasta, located in Gunma Prefecture - historically known as Joshu - in central Japan. The company named itself after Mount Akagi, the highest peak in the district. Gunma Prefecture is renowned for its climate, abundant water supply, and exceptional wheat quality, making it one of Japan's most famous noodle-producing regions. Akagi has harnessed these natural advantages to produce authentic traditional Japanese noodles for generations. The Joshu range of noodles is crafted according to traditional Japanese recipes and packaged in recycled paper, reflecting the company's commitment to both authenticity and sustainability. Akagi is ISO22000 certified, demonstrating their dedication to food safety and quality management. In the UK, Akagi offers three core products: Joshu Soba (buckwheat noodles with a firm texture and nutty taste, traditionally cut by knife giving a distinctive square profile), Joshu Udon (thick, chewy wheat noodles with a smooth, satisfyingly firm texture), and Joshu Kishimen (flat, ribbon-like wheat noodles). All are versatile for hot soups, stir-fries, or chilled dishes.
