About Ambrosi
Ambrosi is one of Italy's most respected cheese companies, specialising in the aging and distribution of Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano – two of the world's most celebrated DOP cheeses. Founded in 1942 by Ottorino Ambrosi, a decorated aviator who returned from war to begin butter production, the company has grown into a global leader in Italian hard cheese. Based in Castenedolo in the Brescia province, Ambrosi operates with over 430 employees and generates approximately €420 million in annual revenue – more than doubling their business over 15 years. The company now exports to over 50 countries, with international sales accounting for nearly half of turnover. Their UK presence was strengthened through the acquisition of Anthony Rowcliffe & Son Ltd, an established English distributor of quality cheeses. Ambrosi's quality credentials are exceptional. Parmigiano Reggiano from their "La Traversetolese" dairy in Parma has won multiple World Cheese Awards, including "Super Gold" in 2017, "Gold" in 2018, and "Bronze" in 2019. The company also produces mozzarella, Gorgonzola, butter, and other fresh and semi-hard Italian cheeses. In 2022, the Ambrosi family and partner EMMI sold the company to Lactalis, the large French dairy group, ensuring continued investment and global reach while maintaining the traditional Italian cheesemaking expertise that has defined Ambrosi for over eight decades.
