About Bigjigs Toys
Bigjigs Toys is a beloved British wooden toy company born in 1985 in Peter Ireland's garden shed in Folkestone, Kent. Peter, training as a Craft Design teacher, began making wooden jigsaws from floorboards with wife Liz, selling them at Covent Garden market. Friends and family loved the handmade creations, and when customers demanded more, the couple gave up teaching to pursue toys full-time. From those humble beginnings selling handmade puzzles from a single market stall, Bigjigs has grown into an international success story. At their peak, they printed over 500,000 mail-order catalogues annually. Today, their products are sold in over 100 countries with a range spanning 2,500+ items—from wooden railway sets and ride-ons to arts & crafts, sensory toys, and educational games. Sustainability is central to Bigjigs' ethos. Most products use Rubberwood, a byproduct of latex production that would otherwise be discarded. Harvested from replenishable forests, this solid hardwood creates durable, eco-friendly toys built to last. In 2018, Bigjigs acquired Tidlo from John Crane, adding another respected wooden toy brand alongside Bigjigs Rail, Didicar, and ZooBooKoo. After 40 years, Bigjigs remains proudly family-run. Founders Peter and Liz are still involved in every aspect, with sons Sam and Tom as Directors since 2017. Compare Bigjigs Toys prices on Grocefully.
