About Buderim Ginger
Buderim Ginger is the world's only western ginger processor, founded in 1941 in Queensland, Australia during World War II when Chinese ginger imports were unavailable. Five pioneering ginger farmers met in an old blacksmith's shop with just £25 capital, two wooden vats, and 14 tons of green ginger—laying the foundation for what would become Australia's leading ginger producer. The Sunshine Coast's rich volcanic soil and subtropical climate make Buderim the ideal location for premium ginger cultivation. By 2009, the company processed 95% of Australia's ginger and was recognised as the industry's "backbone." Today, Buderim Ginger exports to over 17 countries and produces more than 60 different ginger products from their base at Yandina, including their famous crystallised ginger (marketed as Naked Ginger), ginger sauces, marmalades, cordials, and pickled ginger. The company continues innovating with functional products like BioActive Ginger Plus shots, named Best Functional Food or Beverage Product in 2023. In 2025, Buderim Ginger was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame, recognising their standing as Australia's leading producer, processor, and distributor of world-class ginger products. The famous Ginger Factory at Yandina attracts over 400,000 visitors annually—including Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1983—offering factory tours, rides, shops, and restaurants celebrating Australia's ginger heritage. Community Foods serves as the UK distributor, bringing authentic Australian ginger products to British consumers.
