About Calvet
Calvet is one of France's oldest and most respected wine houses, founded in 1818 by Jean-Marie Calvet in Tain l'Hermitage. What began as a family wine trading business expanded to Bordeaux in 1849, eventually becoming the largest wine company in France through the 19th and much of the 20th century. With origins tracing to the Minervois wine region and Jean-Marie's inherited passion from his mother's Rhône Valley vineyards, Calvet built a reputation for quality that now spans 137 countries worldwide. Today the brand belongs to Les Grands Chais de France, owned by the Alsace-born Helfrich family, continuing two centuries of winemaking excellence. The Calvet portfolio showcases France's finest wine regions including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Alsace, the Rhône Valley, Loire Valley, and Languedoc-Roussillon. Available in UK supermarkets are the elegant Chablis from Burgundy, fruity Fleurie from Beaujolais, and refreshing Alsace Pinot Blanc. With 80% of wines vinified in-house and sixth-generation family involvement, Calvet represents authentic French winemaking heritage accessible to British wine lovers.
