Carte Blanche Greetings is the beloved British company behind one of the world's most recognisable character brands - Me to You Bears, also known as Tatty Teddy. Founded in 1987 by Stephen Haines with just 12 greeting card designs and a dream, Carte Blanche has grown into an international creator, distributor, retailer, and licensor of character-branded products spanning toys, gifts, greeting cards, apparel, and homeware. The iconic Tatty Teddy character was first created in 1987 when illustrator Michael Payne approached the fledgling Carte Blanche with his design of a rather scruffy, plump little grey bear. The character features short grey fur, small black eyes, an off-white snout, and the distinctive blue nose with a white reflective spot that has become the brand's hallmark. The 'tatty' appearance comes from visible patches and stitching repair work on the arms and head, giving the bears their characteristic well-loved look. In 1995, as the bear's popularity soared, Carte Blanche launched the Me To You brand to encompass all their Tatty Teddy products. The range initially focused on greeting cards and gift items, with the first plush Tatty Teddy bear hand-crafted by Linda Laverty of Worthing, West Sussex in 2000. This expansion proved phenomenally successful - by 2013, over 75 million Me to You plush bears had been sold globally across more than 80 countries.
