About Cocio
Cocio is Denmark's beloved chocolate milk brand, created in 1951 when Anker Pallesen and his wife Ella discovered the perfect recipe in their kitchen using just three simple ingredients: milk, cocoa, and sugar. What began as 1,000 bottles a day in Esbjerg has grown into Scandinavia's most iconic chocolate milk, now enjoyed across Europe and beyond. The secret to Cocio's distinctive taste lies in its unique production process. Unlike most chocolate milks, Cocio is boiled for approximately 30 minutes after bottling, causing the sugar to caramelise and creating the drink's characteristic flavour and smooth mouthfeel. The bottles and cans are then left to mature for five days, allowing the rich flavours to develop fully. Cocio's journey through multiple ownerships reflects its enduring appeal: sold to American Borden Food Corporation in 1976, it returned to Danish hands in 1999 before Arla Foods became sole owner in 2008. In 1989, Cocio acquired rival Congo to become the dominant force in Danish chocolate milk, a position it maintains today. Now available in the UK, Cocio appeals to discerning chocolate milk enthusiasts seeking an authentic, clean-label alternative to heavily processed drinks. The simple three-ingredient recipe and traditional caramelisation process deliver a premium drinking experience that has delighted generations of Danish consumers since the 1950s.
