About Epiros
Epiros is Greece's leading branded feta cheese, produced in the traditional cheese-making region of Arta since 1994. Founded by entrepreneurs working with local cheesemakers, the company combined age-old recipes with modern technology to create consistently exceptional feta that has earned Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. The brand grew rapidly after Optima S.A. acquired full ownership in 1997, investing significantly in production and quality control. Today, Epiros SA operates three state-of-the-art facilities in Arta, Elassona, and Domokos, processing approximately 47,000 tonnes of sheep and goat milk annually from cooperating farmers who use company-supplied pre-cooled milk tanks to maintain freshness. In 2018, Epiros became Greece's top-selling branded feta—both bulk and prepacked—capturing 14.8% volume market share and 16% value share. This success reflects their commitment to authentic production: all Epiros feta is made from 100% sheep and goat milk following traditional Greek methods, certified to international standards including ISO 22000, IFS, BRC, and FSMA. Beyond classic feta, Epiros has innovated with products like Light Cheese (only 12% fat), Reduced Salt Feta (40% less salt), Organic Feta PDO, Gidotyri (100% goat milk), and Malaki (softer texture). The brand also produces Kefalograviera, Kaseri, Mizithra, and Graviera—bringing the full range of traditional Greek cheese craftsmanship to international markets including the UK.
