About Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake is one of Japan's most influential fashion designers, whose cutting-edge creativity became a global byword for innovative design in the 1980s. Beyond fashion - including creating Steve Jobs' iconic black turtleneck jumpers - Miyake revolutionised the fragrance world with L'Eau d'Issey in 1992, defining the aquatic floral category that dominated the decade. L'Eau d'Issey, meaning "the water of Issey" in French (and a play on "odyssey"), was born from Miyake's vision of creating a perfume "as clear as spring water" - combining the spray of a waterfall, the fragrance of flowers, and the scent of a springtime forest. Created by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier, this aquatic floral opens with lotus, melon and freesia, settling into a woody white musk base that remains timelessly elegant. The iconic bottle design was inspired by a magical Paris evening when Miyake saw a full moon rising above the Eiffel Tower. Created by Miyake himself alongside Fabien Baron and Alain de Mourgues, the bottle embodies Japanese minimalism - "more Japanese than European" as designer Tokujin Yoshioka observed. Issey Miyake fragrances are now offered through Shiseido's Beauté Prestige International. Compare Issey Miyake fragrance prices across UK supermarkets with Grocefully.
