About Monster High
Monster High is Mattel's iconic fashion doll franchise that brought goth-inspired characters to the toy world when it launched in July 2010. Created by toy designer Garrett Sander after observing young girls' interest in goth fashion, Monster High became Mattel's first major original franchise since Hot Wheels in 1968. The franchise features the teenage children of famous monsters attending Monster High school - including Draculaura (Dracula's daughter), Frankie Stein (Frankenstein's daughter), Clawdeen Wolf, and Cleo De Nile. Aimed at children ages 7-14, Monster High expanded beyond dolls into animated web series, TV specials, films, video games, and a young adult novel series by Lisi Harrison. After declining sales led to discontinuation in 2018, Monster High relaunched in 2020-2022 with new dolls, a Nickelodeon animated series, and a live-action musical film. Today, official Monster High costumes let children dress as their favourite characters for Halloween, fancy dress parties, and character days, bringing the 'freaky fabulous' aesthetic to life.
