About Right Guard
Right Guard holds the distinction of being the first aerosol deodorant, introduced in 1960 by The Gillette Company. This groundbreaking innovation transformed personal hygiene by allowing hygienic, touch-free application. The aerosol format proved so popular that by the early 1970s, it dominated 82% of antiperspirant sales in the United States. The brand has passed through several owners during its 60+ year history. Originally part of Gillette, Right Guard moved to Procter & Gamble when they acquired Gillette in 2005, before being sold to The Dial Corporation, a Henkel subsidiary, in 2006. Since June 2021, the brand has been manufactured by Thriving Brands LLC, remaining the second largest male deodorant brand in the American market. Right Guard became culturally iconic through memorable advertising, most notably the "Hi, guy!" commercial campaign running from 1969 to 1976 featuring Chuck McCann. The brand subsequently targeted sports enthusiasts through athletic-focused marketing from the late 1980s through the 1990s, positioning itself as the choice for active men who demand reliable protection. Today's Right Guard range includes invisible solid sticks, traditional deodorant sticks, clear gels, aerosol sprays and shower gels. The Sport line remains popular with athletes and gym-goers, while the brand continues its legacy of protecting men against sweat and odour during demanding physical activity.
