About Royal Worcester
Royal Worcester is Britain's oldest porcelain brand, established in 1751 in Worcester, England. Founded by physician John Wall and apothecary William Davis on the banks of the River Severn, the company pioneered fine English porcelain for over 270 years, holding the longest continuous Royal Warrant of any English ceramic firm. The brand received its first Royal patronage from King George III in 1789, and this prestigious royal connection has been renewed with each successive monarch—giving Royal Worcester its distinguished name and reputation for excellence. The company's early innovations included Robert Hancock's groundbreaking technique of transferring prints onto porcelain in 1756. Royal Worcester revolutionised tableware in 1931 with the introduction of ovenproof porcelain, allowing decorative ceramics to move from display cabinets to practical kitchen use. Their most iconic pattern, "Evesham Gold," launched in 1961, depicts autumnal fruits from the Vale of Evesham with fine gold banding—remaining popular for over 60 years. Following a 2009 administration, the Royal Worcester brand and intellectual property were acquired by Portmeirion Group, who continue to produce contemporary collections at their Stoke-on-Trent facilities. Today's range includes the charming Wrendale Designs—featuring hand-painted illustrations of British wildlife by artist Hannah Dale—and the elegant Serendipity collection of fine white porcelain tableware. The Museum of Royal Worcester, founded in 1946, houses the world's largest collection of Worcester porcelain, preserving nearly three centuries of ceramic heritage.
