About Schar
Schär is Europe's number one gluten-free food brand and the UK's leading choice for coeliac-friendly products. The brand's origins date to 1922 when Dr. Anton Schär, Chief Medical Officer for Innsbruck, developed a gluten-free infant formula and began producing rice cream commonly recommended for digestive problems. The modern Schär brand was relaunched in 1981 by Ulrich Ladurner, who took over his parents' chemist and health food shop at age 23 and recognised the unmet need for quality gluten-free food. His vision came during a 1980 TV interview—to create a specialist range geared specifically towards people with coeliac disease and gluten intolerances. The brand unveiled its first gluten-free pasta in 1985, developed with doctors and coeliac associations, followed by baked goods including their first White Bread. Schär expanded across Europe (UK, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands), opened a dedicated research laboratory in Trieste in 2003, entered the US market in 2007, and acquired UK brands Glutafin and Trufree. Ulrich Ladurner remains chairman today, overseeing a company that has transformed gluten-free eating from medical necessity into enjoyable lifestyle. Today's UK range includes bread (white, seeded, ciabatta, baguettes), pasta (spaghetti, penne, lasagne sheets), crackers, biscuits, pizza bases, flour blends, breakfast cereals and snacks. All products are certified gluten-free and widely available. Compare Schär prices across Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose and other UK supermarkets with Grocefully.
