About Skinny Tan
Skinny Tan is a British self-tanning brand founded in 2012 by mumpreneurs Kate Cotton and Louise Ferguson. Both grew up in 1980s Essex before Louise moved to Australia, where the pair reconnected and developed their business idea. Conscious of harsh chemicals in conventional beauty products, they created a self-tan with a 'skinny ingredients list' featuring more naturally derived ingredients. The brand made history on BBC's Dragons' Den in 2013 with the most successful pitch in the show's history. All five Dragons offered investment - a rare occurrence - with the founders accepting deals from interior designer Kelly Hoppen and businessman Piers Linney. This television exposure catapulted Skinny Tan into the mainstream, with Superdrug becoming the first high street retailer in 2016. Skinny Tan pioneered the combination of natural tanning actives with guarana, a caffeine derivative known to help visibly reduce the appearance of cellulite. This innovation positioned the brand as both a self-tanner and skincare product, with formulas enriched with coconut oil and other skin-nourishing ingredients. In 2015, InnovaDerma PLC acquired a majority stake, supporting further international expansion. UK supermarkets offer Skinny Tan's popular self-tanning range including the 1 Hour Express Mousse for quick results, Tan & Tone Oil for gradual colour, Notox Face Tanning Drops, Self-Tanning Whip, Coconut Water Tanning Mist, and the Miracle Brush applicator.
