About Sophie Conran
Sophie Conran is a British designer from one of the UK's most celebrated creative families, daughter of Sir Terence Conran (founder of Habitat and The Conran Shop) and food writer Caroline Herbert. Born in 1965, she grew up surrounded by design excellence, with her half-brothers including fashion designer Jasper Conran and product designer Sebastian Conran. This creative upbringing shapes her elegant, functional approach to homeware design. Her most successful collaboration is Sophie Conran for Portmeirion, an award-winning tableware collection launched in 2006. The range won an Elle Deco Style Award for Best in Kitchens in 2006 and House Beautiful Award for Best in Tableware in 2008. Inspired by her love of Asian ceramics and the legacy of Portmeirion's founder Susan Williams-Ellis, the collection is now sold in over 50 countries worldwide. Beyond tableware, Sophie has designed cutlery collections with Arthur Price (2010) and a garden tools range with Sheffield company Burgon & Ball (2011), shortlisted for Product of the Year at Chelsea Flower Show. She also launched Sophie Conran Pies, winning four Great Taste Awards, and authored the cookbook 'Pies' in 2006. Her career began as an apprentice to couture milliner Stephen Jones. British shoppers can find Sophie Conran homeware at UK supermarkets and department stores. Her designs emphasise practical elegance - pieces that are beautiful enough for entertaining yet durable for everyday family use, typically being dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe.
