About VFC
VFC Foods is a pioneering British vegan food company founded in December 2020, an acronym for "Vegan Fried Chicken." The brand was created by Matthew Glover, co-founder of the global Veganuary movement, and restaurateur Adam Lyons, owner of UK restaurant Source, as a protest against factory farming - what Glover describes as "where food meets activism. This is our sit-down protest." The founding story reflects deep personal conviction. Matthew Glover came from a family of butchers before converting to veganism and co-creating Veganuary with his wife Jane Land. Adam Lyons participated in Veganuary himself and visited an industrial factory farm with Glover, describing the experience as a "gamechanger" that made him "one hundred percent committed to getting VFC into the mainstream market." Based in North Yorkshire, VFC uses wheat protein and a signature cornflake crispy coating to create meat substitute products that mimic the taste and texture of fried chicken. Their launch exceeded all expectations - amassing £48,000 in sales in their first month and running low on stock due to unprecedented consumer demand. The brand has raised over $14 million to fund its mission of replacing chickens in the food system. In October 2021, VFC secured their first major deal with Tesco. They've since expanded distribution and acquired Meatless Farm in a deal worth £12 million, saving the British plant-based brand from bankruptcy. UK shoppers can find VFC Original Chicken Tenders at Tesco and Iceland.
