About Wilko
Wilko is a beloved British variety retail brand founded in 1930 as Wilkinson by James Kemsey Wilkinson and Mary Cooper, opening their first hardware store in Leicester. Over the decades, the brand expanded across Britain, filling the high street gap left by Woolworths' collapse in 2008, and rebranded from Wilkinson to Wilko in 2012. The Wilko own-brand range has been central to the company's success since the first product - a tin of paint - launched in 1973. By 2020, there were over 14,000 Wilko products accounting for more than half of annual sales. The range covers homewares, textiles, DIY supplies, cleaning products, health and beauty, stationery, confectionery, pet products and seasonal goods, all at budget-friendly prices. Following administration in August 2023, the Wilko brand was acquired by CDS Superstores (The Range owner) Chris Dawson, with the website relaunching in October 2023 and stores progressively reopening across the UK. The brand's new owner has announced ambitious plans for an aggressive rollout, aiming for 300+ stores long-term with around 50 opening per year.
