About Woodmansterne
Woodmansterne is a British greeting card publisher founded in 1953 by Graham Woodmansterne, now a third-generation family-owned business. The company began as a specialist in colour slides—famously producing the first publicly-available colour photographs of Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation. The transition to greeting cards came in the 1980s under Graham's son Paul. The breakthrough came in 1987 when Paul published dynamic square Christmas cards featuring Burne-Jones stained-glass windows from Christ Church, Oxford. This created a surge of interest in fine art cards and established Woodmansterne's reputation for high-quality art reproduction. Today, the company is led by third-generation family member Seth Woodmansterne. With production of more than 40 million cards annually, Woodmansterne is one of the UK's largest greeting card producers. The company prints in-house at the award-winning 'Croxley Press' in Watford, Hertfordshire—historically significant as the site of old Croxley Mills, once owned by John Dickinson, the inventor of cardboard and gummed envelopes. Woodmansterne is the foremost supplier of greeting cards to independent retailers in Britain. The brand is known for fine art cards, photographic designs, and licensed collections including Sanderson and other heritage brands. Products include birthday cards, Christmas cards, occasion cards, gift wrap, and gift bags. The British card-giving tradition is especially strong, and Woodmansterne remains a trusted name in quality greeting cards.
