About Zyliss
Zyliss is a renowned Swiss kitchen tools brand founded by Karl Zysset in 1951 in Lyss, Switzerland. The brand name ingeniously combines the founder's surname with the town of Lyss. Zysset, trained as a cabinetmaker and bicycle mechanic, brought his mechanical expertise to kitchen innovation, creating tools that have become household essentials worldwide. The company's breakthrough came in 1948 when Zysset invented the first cast aluminum garlic press, inspired by the mechanics of bicycle brakes. The iconic 'Susi' garlic press, featuring a built-in tool cleaner, has been continuously produced since the mid-20th century and became so legendary that Swiss Post honoured it with a commemorative stamp in 2024 as part of their 'Swiss Inventions' series. Zyliss also invented the salad spinner and an innovative onion chopper. Modern Zyliss maintains its reputation for Swiss precision and design excellence. Between 2005 and 2017, the brand earned more than 10 prestigious Red Dot Design Awards for outstanding product design. The company is now operated by DKB Household Switzerland AG, part of DKSH, with headquarters in Zurich, but remains true to its Swiss heritage of quality and robustness. British shoppers can find Zyliss kitchen tools at UK supermarkets. The range includes garlic presses, salad spinners, can openers, peelers, choppers, and other kitchen gadgets, all designed with the precision engineering that has defined Swiss craftsmanship for over seven decades.
