About Belazu
Belazu (originally The Fresh Olive Company) was founded in 1991 when co-founder George Bennell returned from France with a van full of Provençal olives and big dreams. What began as a simple appreciation for quality olives at a French farmers' market has grown into the UK's top-selling premium olive oil and balsamic vinegar brand, supplying over 300 product lines to Britain's leading professional kitchens and home cooks alike. The company, founded by Adam Wells, George Bennell and Charlie Hodges, built its reputation in the foodservice industry through word-of-mouth recommendations. In November 2018, Belazu joined the William Jackson Food Group (owners of Abel & Cole, Wellocks, and Jacksons bakery). Today, Belazu supplies food manufacturers for major UK retailers including Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and Sainsbury's. Belazu's Mediterranean and Middle Eastern range has earned over 140 Great Taste stars. Their signature Rose Harissa—a complex blend of spices and rose petals providing slow-burning chilli heat—has been a kitchen cupboard staple for over 20 years. The tahini, made from Ethiopian sesame seeds slow-roasted in Nablus (the original home of tahini), is double-ground for silky texture. Premium olive oils include Crete Gold (Koroneiki olives), Cornicabra from Andalucía, and infused varieties (lemon, basil, garlic, chilli). The range extends to preserved lemons, antipasti, grains, vinegars and nut mixes. Belazu is a certified B Corporation, London Living Wage employer since 2013, and their Greenford site is a zero-landfill business. The Belazu Foundation (established 2003) supports disadvantaged children through education and healthy food access.
