About Camden
Camden Town Brewery is a London-based craft brewery founded in 2010 by Australian Jasper Cuppaidge. Originally brewing under Victorian railway arches at Kentish Town West Station, the brewery grew to become the UK's second most popular craft brewery by 2015, trailing only BrewDog. The brewery's origins trace to a missed flight. In the mid-1990s, Cuppaidge missed his return flight to Australia and stayed in England, eventually purchasing a dilapidated Hampstead pub that became The Horseshoe in 2006. He brewed his first batch, Mac's Beer, in 2007 as a birthday present for his mother—based on a recipe from his grandfather's McLaughlin's Brewery in Australia, which operated from 1910 to 1960. Camden's flagship Hells Lager debuted in autumn 2010—a cross between German Helles and Pilsner, brewed with malt and hops sourced from Germany. The clean, crisp lager became iconic in London's craft beer scene and remains the brewery's signature product. In December 2015, Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired Camden Town Brewery for approximately £85 million. The investment enabled expansion, including a £30 million state-of-the-art facility in Enfield, North London, opened in 2017 with 400,000 hectolitre annual capacity. By January 2021, the brewery was fully integrated into AB InBev's UK operations under the Budweiser Brewing Group. The product range includes Hells Lager, Pale Ale, IPA, and seasonal releases. Despite corporate ownership, Camden maintains its London craft identity and continues brewing from both Camden and Enfield locations.
