About Candlelight
Candlelight is a British home fragrance and giftware company founded in 1972 by Mike Winch in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Starting with just a £20 investment making candles from a barn during the miner's strike, the company has grown over five decades to become the UK's leading supplier of wholesale gifts, home décor, and home accessories. The company rose to national prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s with their iconic amber kitchen storage jars, which became a phenomenal success and transformed the business from a cottage industry into a global operation. The jars were manufactured locally in Yorkshire with distinctive gold stencilling applied by a company just three miles from their Rotherham headquarters. This commitment to local craftsmanship helped establish Candlelight's reputation for quality British-made products. Today, Candlelight offers an extensive range of design-led homeware including candles, reed diffusers, candle holders, artificial flowers, lighting, kitchenware, tableware, glassware, vases, planters, and decorative accessories. Operating from landmark premises spanning over 145,000 square feet in Rotherham, the company serves both major Blue-chip retailers and independent stores across the UK and globally, employing approximately 65 staff members. Candlelight has maintained its position at the forefront of bespoke, exclusive home products for over 50 years, consistently delivering quality and innovation. Their collaboration with Amefa for kitchenware and continued commitment to their South Yorkshire roots demonstrate their dedication to British manufacturing heritage while adapting to modern retail demands.
