About Gourmet Burger Kitchen
Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) is a pioneering British burger restaurant chain that revolutionised the UK dining scene when it was founded in Battersea, South London in 2001. Started by New Zealanders Adam Wills, Greg Driscoll, and Brandon Allen, with menu development overseen by celebrated New Zealand-born chef Peter Gordon, GBK pioneered the shift from fast food burgers to a more indulgent gourmet dining experience. The concept was revolutionary for its time – bringing the idea of 'gourmet burgers' to London and elevating what had been considered basic fast food into a quality restaurant experience. There's a subtle Kiwi theme running through GBK restaurants, a nod to the heritage of the original founders who brought their distinctive approach to burger craft from New Zealand. The brand's initial success at the Battersea location led to rapid expansion across London and the UK. From its sale to Clapham House Group in 2005 through to acquisitions by Capricorn Ventures (Nando's operators) in 2010 and South African firm Famous Brands in 2016, GBK grew to over 60 restaurants. Following challenging trading conditions, the brand was acquired by Ranjit Singh Boparan in 2020 and is now part of the Boparan Restaurant Group alongside Giraffe, Carluccio's, Ed's Easy Diner, Slim Chickens, and Cinnamon Club. Beyond their restaurants, GBK has extended the brand into retail products, allowing burger enthusiasts to recreate the GBK experience at home. Their British beef burgers bring restaurant-quality burgers to your kitchen, while their signature house relish captures the distinctive condiment that has become synonymous with the GBK dining experience. UK shoppers can find GBK retail products at Tesco. Grocefully helps you compare Gourmet Burger Kitchen prices, bringing this pioneering gourmet burger brand to your home barbecue at the best prices.
