About Kraft
Kraft is one of the world's most recognisable food brands, now part of the Kraft Heinz Company—the world's fifth-largest food and beverage company and the third-largest in the United States. The brand's history involves multiple corporate transformations that have shaped the modern food industry. The original Kraft Foods Inc. was split in October 2012 into two companies: Mondelez International (retaining snack brands like Oreo, Cadbury, and Toblerone) and Kraft Foods Group (keeping grocery brands). CEO Irene Rosenfeld believed separating the fast-growing international snack business from the stable but slower-growing grocery division would benefit both. In 2015, Kraft Foods Group merged with H.J. Heinz in a megadeal orchestrated by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Brazilian private-equity firm 3G Capital. This created the Kraft Heinz Company, bringing together over 20 major brands including Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Oscar Mayer, Grey Poupon, Gevalia coffee, and the iconic Heinz ketchup. The Kraft name adorns numerous products sold worldwide, including the famous Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (known as "Kraft Dinner" in some markets), processed cheese products, and various pasta dishes. In the UK, Kraft products include cheese-based pasta dinners and Vegemite spread (an Australian yeast extract). In September 2025, Kraft Heinz announced another split into two companies—one focused on condiments and one on grocery staples—expected to complete in 2026. This came ten years after the Buffett-backed merger, which proved less successful than hoped, with the combined company worth significantly less than the original merger price. Grocefully helps UK shoppers compare prices on Kraft products across supermarkets.
