About La Chouffe
La Chouffe is an iconic Belgian strong blonde ale from Brasserie d'Achouffe in the Ardennes region. Founded in 1982 by brothers-in-law Pierre Gobron and Christian Bauweraerts, the brewery began as a hobby in a garage before becoming one of Belgium's most celebrated craft breweries. The brewery takes its name from a local legend of gnomes (chouffes) who supposedly lived in the Ardennes forest. This charming folklore inspired the brewery's distinctive red-capped gnome logo, now recognised worldwide. La Chouffe remains the brewery's flagship beer, accounting for 80% of production and exported to over 40 countries. La Chouffe is an unfiltered blonde beer at 8% ABV, re-fermented in both bottle and barrel. The recipe features fresh coriander alongside fruity notes and a mild hop finish, creating a complex but accessible Belgian ale. The beer's golden hue and fluffy white head are characteristic of the style. In 2006, Brasserie d'Achouffe was acquired by Duvel Moortgat, Belgium's prestigious brewing group. The brewery is also credited with creating the world's first Belgian IPA, Houblon Chouffe, in 2005. Compare La Chouffe beer prices at Grocefully.
