About Our Gorongosa
Our Gorongosa (Nossa Gorongosa) is a pioneering sustainable coffee brand from Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park, where coffee growing has become a powerful force for conservation, peace-building, and community development. Launched in 2015 through a partnership with specialty coffee experts and local farmers, 100% of profits from this exceptional Arabica coffee fund conservation projects and human development, including girls' education programmes. The project began with just 10 families and has grown remarkably over 10 years to support around 1,000 families working as farmers, roasters, pickers, and tasters. Over 800 farmers have planted more than a quarter of a million indigenous coffee saplings alongside rainforest restoration, resulting in annual exports of around 150 tonnes of Arabica coffee. This model demonstrates how commercial agriculture can coexist with wildlife conservation and ecosystem restoration. Our Gorongosa carries deep significance for Mozambique's peace process. The Gorongosa mountain range once hosted the headquarters of Renamo during the civil conflict; today, the same region has been transformed into a thriving agricultural and conservation project. This coffee symbolises how sustainable development has replaced conflict, creating livelihoods while protecting one of Africa's most biodiverse national parks. Available at Waitrose in the UK under the Nossa Gorongosa name, this 100% Arabica medium roast offers a mild, accessible flavour profile. For conscious coffee lovers, every cup directly supports building schools, training teachers, and creating safe spaces for girls to continue their education rather than face child marriage. It's coffee that genuinely changes lives.
