About Rachels
Rachel's Organic holds the distinction of being the United Kingdom's first certified organic dairy, with roots stretching back to 1952 when Brynllys farm in West Wales became one of the earliest members of the Soil Association. This pioneering commitment to organic farming has shaped over 70 years of dairy production. The Rachel's Dairy brand was born in 1984 following a serendipitous snowstorm. In 1982, heavy snow prevented milk tankers from reaching the isolated Aberystwyth farm, forcing the Rowlands family to find alternative uses for their milk. Using an old butter churn, they made cream and butter by hand. When the snow cleared, they discovered an unexpected market for their dairy goods, inspiring Rachel to research traditional recipes including yoghurt. The company grew rapidly between 1985 and 1990, leading to a purpose-built dairy at Glanyrafon, Aberystwyth. Today, Rachel's Organic is part of Lactalis Nestlé Chilled Dairy but remains proudly made in West Wales using local British organic milk and never any artificial ingredients. The award-winning range includes Greek style yoghurts (both stirred and set), fruit-layered yoghurts in flavours like ginger, cherry, and strawberry, and pure natural yoghurt. Rachel's has won multiple Great Taste Awards and Wales the True Taste awards, with a 2007 YouGov poll recognizing it as one of Britain's most environmentally friendly brands. Products are available in Waitrose, Ocado, and other UK retailers, with continued strong presence in Welsh stores.
