About Aero
Aero is Britain's original bubbly chocolate, launched in 1935 by Rowntree's in York, England. The revolutionary manufacturing process was patented that same year—heating chocolate and aerating it to create small bubbles, then pouring it into moulds where reduced air pressure allows the bubbles to expand as the chocolate cools. This unique texture has made Aero one of the UK and Ireland's most-loved chocolates for nearly 90 years. Production was halted during World War II due to milk shortages but resumed in 1950. By 1936, Aero had already reached the US market, later expanding to Canada, South Africa, Japan, and many other countries. Rowntree's was acquired by Nestlé in 1988, and the brand has been manufactured under Nestlé ownership ever since. Today, over 4 million bubbly bubbles are made every day in the UK at the £15 million Aero factory in York, opened in 2008 with capacity for 183 million bars annually. The products are enjoyed by over 8 million people every year. The Aero range includes the classic Milk Chocolate bar, Peppermint Aero (introduced 1959), Caramel, Orange, and the new Coconut flavour launched in 2025 alongside a promotional campaign where bubble-free bars could win £10,000. Product formats include standard bars, multipacks, Aero Bubbles sharing bags, Aero Biscuits, and seasonal items like Easter Eggs. Aero uses sustainably sourced cocoa from the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, certified by the Rainforest Alliance, working to create a better future for cocoa farmers. Aero is available at UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons. Compare prices with Grocefully.
