About Baxters
Baxters is one of Britain's most beloved food brands, founded in 1868 when 25-year-old gardener George Baxter borrowed £100 to open a grocery shop in Fochabers, Moray. His wife Margaret began making jams and jellies using local Scottish fruit, which became an instant hit with the Duke of Richmond and Gordon—ensuring Baxters products reached the tables of Gordon Castle's distinguished guests. The family business pioneered Scottish food production: Ethel Baxter introduced Scotland's first canned fruits in syrup, whilst Ena Baxter—an artist and cook—expanded the soup range to include traditional Scottish recipes like Cock-a-leekie, Scotch Broth and the famous Royal Game soup with venison from Upper Speyside. Orders from Harrods and Fortnum & Mason soon followed, establishing Baxters as a premium brand. In 1955, Baxters received Royal Warrants from Queen Elizabeth II, The Queen Mother and King Gustav VI of Sweden. The company continued innovating—becoming the first UK company to introduce twist-top caps to preserve jars in 1962. For over 155 years, this private family company has remained in Fochabers, now spanning four generations and expanding through strategic acquisitions. Today's Baxters range includes premium soups (chunky, smooth and traditional Scottish recipes), preserves and jams, pickles and beetroot, chutneys, sauces, vinegars and condiments.
