About Bear
Bear is the UK's number one kids' fruit snacking brand, founded in 2009 by husband and wife team Hayley and Andrew Gait-Golding through their company Urban Fresh Foods. Former Innocent Drinks director Giles Brook invested in the company in 2009, and together they launched Bear to join the already successful Urban Fruit brand. Bear Yoyos are the brand's flagship product - gently baked pure fruit rolls made with 100% natural ingredients and no added sugar. Only whole fresh fruit and vegetables are used, never concentrates, with each Yoyo counting as 1 of your 5 a day. The Strawberry flavour contains apples (65.8%), pears (32.9%), strawberries (1%), and black carrot extract (0.3%). All Bear fruit snacks are vegan and gluten-free. Bear Paws are pure fruit paw shapes designed as healthy toddler snacks for little ones aged 12 months and over. Made from gently baked apples, pears, strawberries, black carrot extract, and spirulina, Paws are high in fibre and contain only natural sugars equivalent to a medium apple. In 2013, Bear launched Alphabites - the UK's first children's breakfast cereal with no refined sugar or salt. Made from 6 simple ingredients including wholegrain wheat, oats, corn, and coconut blossom nectar (which contains twice the calcium of milk and has a naturally low GI), Alphabites provide a tasty, high-fibre breakfast with no artificial colours or flavours. Belgian company Lotus Bakeries acquired Urban Fresh Foods in 2015 for approximately £70 million. In 2024, Urban Fruit was subsumed into the Bear masterbrand to become Bear Fruit, combining both brands under one unified identity. After just six years from launch, Bear achieved market share exceeding 30% with availability in over 18,000 stockists across the UK.
