About Clipper
Clipper is a British Fairtrade tea company based in Beaminster, Dorset, founded in 1984 by Mike and Lorraine Brehme. The company started in their Dorset kitchen with two chests of Assam tea bought for £50 and sold to local health food shops. Today, Clipper is the world's largest Fairtrade tea brand with over 150 products sold in more than 50 countries. In 1994, Clipper became one of the first three companies in the UK to receive the Fairtrade Mark, having helped write the Fairtrade Standards during the Foundation's earliest stages. The company even produced a magazine called The Teapot Times about tea production history and the positive impact of Fairtrade on communities worldwide. Clipper has won Great Taste Awards every year since 2009. In 2018, Clipper launched the world's first unbleached, non-GM, plastic-free teabag - better for the environment and fully compostable. All teabags are made from unbleached paper, packed in 100% biodegradable, non-chlorine bleached paper and card from managed sustainable forests. The product range covers black tea (English Breakfast, Earl Grey), green tea, white tea, herbal infusions (chamomile, peppermint, lemon & ginger, dandelion, nettle), and rooibos. The brand has expanded to include organic coffee and hot chocolate. Everything is still blended at their Beaminster, Dorset factory. In 2007, the founders sold to Fleming Family & Partners for around £25-30 million following their divorce. In 2012, Royal Wessanen (now Ecotone) purchased Clipper for approximately £50 million.
