About Dr Pepper
Dr Pepper is America's oldest major soft drink brand, created in 1885 by pharmacist Charles Alderton at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. The unique beverage caught the attention of store owner Wade Morrison and beverage chemist Robert S. Lazenby, who officially established the Dr Pepper Company in 1891. The drink's big break came at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, where it was introduced to nearly 20 million attendees. In 2025, Dr Pepper achieved a historic milestone by becoming the second most consumed carbonated soft drink in America, surpassing Pepsi. The brand is now part of Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP), formed in 2018 when Keurig acquired Dr Pepper Snapple Group for $18.7 billion. KDP boasts annual revenues exceeding $15 billion with a portfolio of over 125 brands. Interestingly, Dr Pepper is distributed by different companies depending on the market. In the UK and Ireland, The Coca-Cola Company handles manufacturing and distribution—making it neither a Coca-Cola nor PepsiCo product by origin, but distributed by Coca-Cola in Britain. In the US, Canada, and Mexico, Keurig Dr Pepper handles production, while PepsiCo distributes in several other markets. The distinctive flavour comes from a proprietary blend often described as containing 23 flavours, though the exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret. The taste profile is neither strictly cola nor root beer, occupying a unique category of its own. The UK product range includes Original Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Zero (sugar-free), and Cherry Dr Pepper. Various pack sizes are available from single cans and bottles to multipacks. Dr Pepper is available at UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons.
