About Frontline
Frontline is one of the world's most trusted pet parasite treatment brands, originally developed by Merial in the 1990s and now manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Boehringer Ingelheim. The brand has dominated the flea control market for decades with its reliable, vet-recommended formulations for dogs and cats. The original Frontline Spot On uses fipronil, a phenylpyrazole insecticide developed in the late 1980s that acts directly on parasites' nervous systems for rapid kill. Frontline Plus (also known as Frontline Combo) adds methoprene, a juvenile hormone analogue that prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing, breaking the lifecycle for comprehensive protection. Both provide 30 days of cover per application. Frontline products are available in weight-specific formulations to ensure safe, effective dosing. Cat treatments cover all sizes, while dog treatments range from small (2-10kg) through medium (10-20kg), large (20-40kg), to XL (40-60kg). The brand has also expanded to include Frontline Wormer tablets for internal parasite control in cats and dogs. While fipronil has lost patent protection and generic alternatives exist, Frontline remains the market leader due to its established reputation and veterinary endorsement. Products are widely available at UK supermarkets including Asda, Tesco, and Ocado, as well as pet shops and veterinary practices.
