About Harrys
Harry's is an American men's shaving and grooming brand founded in July 2012 by Andy Katz-Mayfield and Jeff Raider in New York City. The company was born from the founders' frustration with overpriced, over-designed razors locked behind store counters, inspiring them to create a simpler, more affordable alternative that didn't compromise on quality. The brand takes its name from Jeff Raider's grandfather figure Harry, who embodied a warm, approachable, no-nonsense approach to life. Jeff Raider, who also co-founded Warby Parker eyewear, brought the same disruptive philosophy to the razor industry, initially launching Harry's with a buy-one-donate-one social mission and direct-to-consumer model. In January 2014, Harry's made a significant strategic move by acquiring Feintechnik, a century-old German razor blade manufacturer, for $100 million. This acquisition gave the company complete control over its manufacturing process, ensuring the quality German engineering that distinguishes Harry's blades from competitors. The founders personally tested blades from Egypt to Japan before settling on German precision. Harry's successfully challenged the duopoly of Gillette and Schick, which together controlled approximately 90% of the men's shaving market. By 2019, Harry's captured nearly 7% of US non-disposable razor sales and expanded into major retailers including Target and Walmart. The brand achieved a $1.7 billion valuation by 2021, proving that fair pricing and quality can disrupt even the most entrenched markets.
