About KitchenAid
KitchenAid is one of the world's most recognized kitchen appliance brands, founded in 1919 by The Hobart Manufacturing Company in the United States. The brand's legendary stand mixer has its origins in 1908 when Hobart engineer Herbert Johnston watched a baker mixing dough by hand and believed there must be a better way. By 1917, Hobart stand mixers had become standard equipment on all U.S. Navy ships, prompting development of the first home models. The KitchenAid name itself came from an executive's wife who, after testing a prototype mixer, declared "I don't care what you call it, but I know it's the best kitchen aid I've ever had!" The iconic design we know today was created in the 1930s by industrial designer Egmont Arens, whose streamlined profile has remained virtually unchanged for nearly a century. In 1997, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art officially recognized the KitchenAid stand mixer as an icon of American design. Since 1986, KitchenAid has been owned by Whirlpool Corporation, the world's largest appliance manufacturer. Under Whirlpool's stewardship, the brand has expanded far beyond stand mixers to include espresso machines, cookware, bakeware, kitchen utensils, and small appliances. All KitchenAid stand mixers continue to be assembled at the company's factory in Greenville, Ohio, maintaining the brand's American manufacturing heritage. In the UK, KitchenAid products are available through major retailers.
