About Krombacher
Krombacher Brauerei is one of Germany's largest privately owned breweries and producer of the nation's second most consumed Pilsener. Founded on 4 February 1803 by Johannes Haas in Krombach, the brewery remains family-owned after more than 220 years, now under the stewardship of the Schadeberg family since 1922. The secret to Krombacher's distinctive taste lies in the legendary Krombacher Rock Spring, discovered in 1722 by mountain inspector Fresenius. The soft, low-mineral water from this source provides the perfect base for brewing, originally transported to the brewery by ox cart. This pure water, combined with German brewing tradition, creates Krombacher's clean, refreshing Pilsener. Krombacher Pilsener was perfected in the early 20th century after brewing trials began around 1890. The brewery experimented with different hops and fermentation methods until they achieved the style that would make them a German household name. Today, production exceeds 5 million hectolitres annually, and the brand has been the official partner of the German Football League since 2009. The range includes their flagship Pils, Krombacher Weizen (wheat beer, launched 2007), Radler (50% Pils, 50% lemonade), and an alcohol-free variant. Available at UK supermarkets including Tesco and Iceland, Krombacher brings authentic German brewing heritage to British beer lovers.
