About Method
Method is an eco-friendly cleaning brand founded in 2001 by childhood friends Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry in San Francisco. The pair set out to revolutionise cleaning products by creating effective, stylish alternatives that smell great and work brilliantly without harsh chemicals. After a difficult start—both founders maxed out credit cards—Method secured distribution to 800 Target stores in 2002, designed by renowned designer Karim Rashid, and never looked back. Today Method makes over 150 different cleaning products, all formulated without parabens, phosphates, phthalates, triclosan, bleach or chlorine. Ingredients are mostly naturally derived or plant-based, avoiding fossil fuel-derived chemicals. The brand is Leaping Bunny approved (certified cruelty-free by Cruelty Free International), vegan-friendly, and packages products in 100% recycled plastic. Method even reincorporated as a public benefit corporation, codifying its commitment to social and environmental ethics. The iconic teardrop-shaped hand wash bottles became a design classic, whilst Method's triple-concentrated (3x) laundry detergent pioneered the concentrated format in the US mass market. The UK range includes hand wash, surface cleaners, bathroom sprays, washing-up liquid, laundry detergent and multi-surface sprays in fragrances like Pink Grapefruit, Wild Lavender and Cucumber. In 2012, Belgian eco-brand Ecover acquired Method to create the world's largest green cleaning company. SC Johnson acquired both brands in 2017, though Method maintains its environmental commitments. Compare Method prices across Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado and other UK retailers with Grocefully to find eco-friendly cleaning at the best price.
