About Oreo
Oreo is the world's best-selling cookie brand, beloved globally for its iconic combination of two chocolate biscuit wafers sandwiching smooth vanilla cream. Created by Nabisco in New York City in 1912, Oreo has grown into a billion-dollar brand owned by Mondelēz International, sold in over 160 countries with the famous "twist, lick, dunk" ritual. The Oreo "Biscuit" was first produced at Nabisco's Chelsea factory, a block now ceremonially named "Oreo Way". After Nabisco was acquired by Kraft Foods in 2000, the brand became part of Mondelēz International when Kraft spun off its snack business in 2012. Mondelēz also owns Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone, and other iconic confectionery brands. Oreos arrived in the UK through Sainsbury's initially, before a full national launch in 2008 with a £4.5 million advertising campaign. The packaging was adapted to the familiar British tube design. In a 2020 national poll, Oreo ranked as the UK's 16th most popular biscuit. The UK product range includes the classic Original Oreo, Double Stuf (Double Creme) with twice the vanilla filling, Golden Oreos with vanilla wafers, Mini Oreos for on-the-go snacking, and Oreo Thins at 66% thinner with just 40 calories each. Special products include chocolate-covered Oreos and Oreo breakfast cereal. Limited edition flavours regularly appear.
