About Oxo Softworks
OXO Softworks (also known as OXO Good Grips) is an American kitchen tools brand that revolutionized the housewares industry through Universal Design. Founded in 1990 by Sam Farber, the brand was born from a personal moment - watching his wife Betsey struggle to grip a metal vegetable peeler due to arthritis. Rather than accepting this as inevitable, Farber asked "Why couldn't there be comfortable tools that are easy to use, not just for arthritis victims, but for everybody?" Working with design firm Smart Design, Farber created the iconic Good Grips line using thermoplastic rubber (TPR) handles - innovative materials that were primarily used in the automotive industry at the time. The soft, non-slip handles provide superior grip even when wet, making kitchen tasks easier for everyone. The first 15 OXO Good Grips tools launched in 1990 at the San Francisco Gourmet Products Show, with the original vegetable peeler later joining the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. The Good Grips peeler was ranked 6th out of 100 among the most important designs in history by Fortune and IIT Institute of Design. OXO has expanded from the original kitchen tools into storage solutions (OXO POP containers), cleaning products, and more - all following the Universal Design principle. Note: This OXO is entirely separate from the British OXO stock cubes brand.
