About Palmolive
Palmolive is a heritage personal care brand with origins dating back to 1898, when B. J. Johnson created a bar soap made from coconut, palm and olive oils—the name "Palmolive" combines palm and olive. Within just two years of launch, Palmolive became the world's best-selling soap. Johnson's son Caleb became president and renamed the company "Palmolive Soap Co." in 1917. In 1926, Palmolive merged with Peet to form Palmolive-Peet Company. Then in 1928, Colgate merged with Palmolive-Peet to create Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company, combining three of the oldest and largest soap and perfumery companies in the US. The company was renamed Colgate-Palmolive Company in 1953. Today, Colgate-Palmolive is an American multinational headquartered in New York City, specialising in household, health care, personal care and veterinary products. The modern Palmolive range extends far beyond the original bar soap—now including shower gels, hand washes, body washes, and liquid soaps across various fragrances. Palmolive Naturals uses natural extracts like milk proteins, olive, and honey. The brand emphasises gentle cleansing and moisturising properties. Palmolive dishwashing liquid, introduced in 1966, is sold in over 35 countries, though in the UK Palmolive primarily means personal care products. Colgate-Palmolive's other well-known brands include Colgate toothpaste, Irish Spring soap, Softsoap liquid soap, Ajax, and Sanex.
