About Pringles
Pringles is the world's most recognisable crisp brand, famous for its distinctive saddle-shaped chips and iconic cylindrical tube packaging. The brand was invented by Procter & Gamble chemist Fredric J. Baur in 1956, who spent two years developing stackable crisps from fried dough that wouldn't break, go stale or feel greasy like traditional potato chips. P&G launched Pringles in Indiana in 1968, reaching international distribution by 1991. Kellogg's acquired Pringles from P&G in 2012 for $2.695 billion, making Kellogg's the world's second-largest snack company. In October 2023, Kellogg's split into two companies: WK Kellogg Co (North American cereals) and Kellanova (international cereals and snacks including Pringles). In August 2024, Mars Inc. (M&M's, Snickers) agreed to acquire Kellanova for nearly $30 billion, bringing Pringles under Mars ownership. The UK Pringles range includes classic flavours: Original, Sour Cream & Onion, Salt & Vinegar, Paprika, Smokey Bacon, Prawn Cocktail, Cheese & Onion, and Pizza. The 2024 Hot range offers spicy options: Flamin' Cheese, Mexican Chilli & Lime, Smokin' BBQ Ribs, Kickin' Sour Cream, and Sweet Chilli—replacing the Sizzl'N range. Sizes range from 40g grab bags to 200g sharing tubes. Interestingly, a 2008 UK court ruled Pringles weren't crisps (42% potato content), though this was reversed in 2009.
