About Sacla
Saclà is the UK's favourite pesto and the brand that pioneered pesto in Britain. Founded in Asti, Piedmont, in north-west Italy in 1923 by Secondo Ercole and his wife Piera Campanella, the company initially marketed surplus vegetables from the Tanaro Valley. In 1939 the name changed to SACLÀ (Società Anonima Commercio e Lavorazione Alimentari) and the company flourished as one of Italy's most progressive food companies. The 1980s brought important innovations with pesto and pasta sauces that interpret Italian gastronomic tradition with Saclà's distinctive style. In 1990, coinciding with Italia '90 World Cup fever, Saclà UK was launched as the first overseas subsidiary, pioneering pesto to British families. 'Pesto Pasta' became a family favourite in homes across the country. In 2011, Saclà's fresh pesto range was voted UK's favourite ready-made sauce by Good Housekeeping readers. Still family-run after three generations, Saclà is now led by CEO Chiara Ercole, granddaughter of the founders. The company has international presence in over 60 markets and is part of the Almaverde Bio Italia Srl consortium for organic products. The UK range includes Classic Basil Pesto (green pesto), Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto (red pesto), Truffle Pesto, Char-Grilled Aubergine Pesto, Tomato & Ricotta Pesto, Roasted Pepper Pesto, and Alfredo Pesto. Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto blends sun-dried tomatoes with fresh basil, garlic, Parmigiano Reggiano PDO, Pecorino cheese, olive oil, cashew nuts, and pine nuts. Products come in jars and convenient Pesto Pots for on-the-go. In 2009, Saclà partnered with Lawrence Dallaglio to create the 'Dallaglio by Saclà' pasta sauce range. The brand donates 1p from every jar sold to The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation.
