About Sally Hansen
Sally Hansen is America's number one nail brand, founded in 1946 by the real Sally Hansen—an American businesswoman, dancer, actress, and inventor. The brand has grown from two products to over 300 shades, now distributed in more than 55 countries worldwide. Sally Genevieve Hansen (née Finney) was born in 1908 in Kansas City, Kansas. Her parents Thomas and Jennie Finney owned a small cosmetics company called La Finné, sparking Sally's early interest in beauty. As a teenager, she moved to Hollywood to become a dancer, landing roles on stage and screen while writing a beauty column "Your Candid Mirror" for the Los Angeles Times. In 1946, Hansen founded Sally Hansen Inc. in New York City, with a logo modelled on her own signature. The brand launched with two game-changing products: Hard As Nails and Mend-A-Nail. In 1957, she trademarked "Hard As Nails"—the original nail strengthening treatment that remains a best-seller today. The logo was designed by her third husband, Jack Newton. Sally championed women in the workforce, employing mostly women in her factory. She sold the company in 1962 for $1.4 million (equivalent to over $11 million today) and passed away in 1963 at age 56. Today, Sally Hansen is owned by Coty, which acquired the brand in 2007 through its purchase of Del Laboratories. The product range includes nail polish, treatments, strengtheners, nail art kits, and professional salon products.
