About Seabrook
Seabrook Crisps is a beloved British snack brand produced in Bradford, Yorkshire since 1945. Founded by fish and chip shop owner Charles Brook, who began frying crisps for customers queuing for Friday night fish and chips, the company name arose from a happy accident—a photo-processing clerk wrote "Seabrook" instead of "C. Brook" on a film. Charles' son Colin returned from the Navy and together they made Seabrook Britain's first crinkle cut crisp brand in the 1950s, operating from a one-up one-down terrace house in Bradford and delivering door to door. In 1956, Seabrook hosted the world crisp eating competition in Bradford. The company was incorporated in 1949 and pioneered sunflower oil cooking in 1980. Production moved from Allerton to a larger factory in Princeville, Bradford in 1979-80. Four generations of the Brook family built the business—Charles, Colin, and later chairman Ken Brook—before Japanese snack giant Calbee Inc. acquired Seabrook in October 2018 as part of international expansion. Most potatoes are still grown within 50 miles of the Bradford headquarters at Seabrook House. Seabrook is famous for crinkle cut crisps in classic flavours: Ready Salted, Salt & Vinegar, Cheese & Onion, and Prawn Cocktail. The brand remains proudly Yorkshire, partnering with Morrisons to create limited-edition flavours celebrating Bradford's 2025 City of Culture status.
