About Warninks
Warninks is the iconic Dutch advocaat brand that has been produced in Holland since 1616, making it one of the oldest continuously produced liqueurs in the world. This rich, custardy egg liqueur became a firm favourite in the UK during the 1970s and remains synonymous with festive celebrations, particularly as the essential ingredient in the classic Snowball cocktail that has been enjoyed since its creation in the 1940s. Warninks is an entirely natural product made using just four ingredients: brandy, egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla. The recipe contains no preservatives or artificial thickeners, relying purely on the natural properties of high-quality eggs for its distinctive creamy texture. Remarkably, over 40 million eggs are used annually in production, a testament to both the scale and the authenticity of this traditional Dutch liqueur. At 17.2% ABV, it strikes a balance between sweetness and spirit strength. The flavour profile of Warninks is comparable to eggnog - full-bodied with a sweet, creamy texture and prominent vanilla aromas. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice, or in a variety of classic cocktails beyond the Snowball, including the Fluffy Duck, Green Monster, Broken Nose, and the colourfully named Squashed Frog. While advocaat never quite conquered the entire world, it achieved cult status in the UK and remains a nostalgic Christmas staple. Warninks advocaat is widely available at UK supermarkets, off-licences, and specialist retailers including The Whisky Exchange, Taurus Wines, and Cheers Wine Merchants. The distinctive yellow liqueur in its 70cl bottle has earned its place in British drinking culture, evoking memories of retro cocktail parties while remaining relevant for contemporary entertaining.
