About Yamamotoyama
Yamamotoyama (山本山) is the world's oldest tea company, tracing its roots back to 1690 when Kahei Yamamoto I established a tea shop in Nihonbashi, Edo (modern Tokyo). For over 330 years and eleven generations, the Yamamoto family has been pioneering Japanese tea excellence from the same location in Tokyo. The company's greatest innovation came in 1835 when Kahei Yamamoto developed gyokuro ("jade dew") - a premium green tea shielded from sunlight during the final growing stage to preserve higher L-theanine levels and richer umami flavour. Yamamotoyama was also the first merchant to sell sencha tea in Japan. Today, Yamamotoyama offers authentic Japanese green teas including Sencha (the most popular Japanese green tea), Hojicha (roasted green tea with a toasty flavour), and Genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice). In 1947, the company expanded into nori seaweed production, becoming a global leader in tea and seaweed. Grocefully helps you compare Yamamotoyama tea prices across UK retailers including Ocado, bringing over three centuries of Japanese tea expertise to your home at the best value.
