About Belton Farm
Belton Farm is an independent, family-run cheesemaker based in the Shropshire countryside, where the Beckett family has been crafting traditional British cheese since 1922. With cheese-making on the site dating back over 200 years, Belton Farm represents one of Britain's most prestigious artisan dairy producers. Today, Belton Farm employs 90 people on their 450-acre organic site, producing 7,500 tonnes of cheese annually from milk sourced exclusively from 85 local farms within a 25-mile radius. The cows graze on the Cheshire plain, which sits upon underground rock salt deposits, giving the milk and resulting cheese a distinctive slightly salty character unique to the region. Belton Farm has won five Supreme Champion titles at the International Cheese & Dairy Awards over the past 60 years, with their traditional Coloured Cheshire being particularly acclaimed. Their commitment to traditional methods includes using open curd tables, overnight pressing for 18 hours, and bespoke starter cultures—techniques that ensure consistency with their century-old recipes. The brand's flagship Red Fox cheese, introduced in 2012, has become a modern British classic—an aged Red Leicester with a rich, complex, slightly sweet flavour complemented by distinctive crunchy calcium lactate crystals. The range also includes Silver Fox (a mature English cheese) and Smoked Red Fox. Belton Farm gained Organic Status in 2002 and planted 15,000 hardwood trees in 2007, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable farming. In 2017, the company rebranded to "Belton Farm Great British Cheesemakers," reflecting their pride in British territorial cheese heritage.
