About Buchanans
Buchanans is a heritage Northern Irish brand owned by W.G. Buchanan & Son Ltd, a family-owned company that has been sourcing and supplying wholefood ingredients since 1871. Based in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, the business has over 150 years of expertise in dried pulses and wholefoods. The company's best-selling product remains their famous Soup Mix - a wholesome blend of barley, lentils, and split peas that has been a kitchen staple for generations. Over the years, they have expanded to around 70 different product lines including cereals, pulses, rice, dried fruit, seeds, and culinary nuts. In 1940, William McVeigh purchased the business from the Buchanan family, retaining the trusted brand name. Today, his grandson Jonathan McVeigh serves as Managing Director, continuing the family legacy. The company invested £1.1 million in 2007 in a purpose-built 25,000 sq ft facility in Carrickfergus with two separate production areas for strict allergen control. Buchanans products are BRC accredited for quality and food safety. The brand supplies major UK supermarkets including Sainsbury's and ASDA, as well as providing private label services to retailers and foodservice customers throughout Britain and Ireland.
