About Carex
Carex is the UK's number one hand wash brand, trusted by British families for over 30 years. Launched in 1994 by PZ Cussons (the British company behind Imperial Leather, founded in 1884), Carex was the first antibacterial liquid soap to be launched in the UK. Four years later, in 1998, Carex pioneered again by becoming the first brand to launch hand sanitiser in the UK market. The brand quickly established itself as the go-to choice for antibacterial hand hygiene, and today Carex washes approximately 30 million hands annually. The formula includes added moisturisers that remove dirt and germs while protecting skin's natural antibacterial defences for up to 2 hours after washing. Carex Original hand wash kills 99.9% of bacteria. Carex products are proudly made in the UK at the Manchester factory, which runs on 100% renewable energy and has reduced consumption by 13% over three years. The brand uses up to 30% recycled plastic in each product, and the pumps are designed to be reusable—engineered to last over 10,000 uses and recyclable through Terracycle. The product range includes the classic Original hand wash, the moisturising range for dry skin, Fun Editions featuring characters like The Gruffalo to encourage children's hand washing, and the Advanced range for extra protection. Hand sanitiser gels contain 70% alcohol (exceeding the NHS-recommended 60% minimum) in portable 50ml and larger 300ml formats, plus Aloe Vera and Moisture Plus variants.
