About Cesar
Cesar is a gourmet wet dog food brand owned by Mars Petcare, one of the world's largest pet food companies with over $18 billion in annual revenue. The brand traces its history back to 1936 when it began as canned food called Kal Kan, manufactured in Vernon, California. Today, Cesar is formulated specifically for small dogs of all ages. Mars acquired its first pet care brand, Chappie canned dog food, from UK-based Chappell Brothers Ltd in 1935. In 1988, Mars changed its entire dog food line to the Pedigree name, and in the late 1990s, Pedigree Select became Cesar Select Dinners. By 1998, Cesar had become one of the top-selling dog food brands in the United States, with the name reflecting "the large personalities of small four-legged family members." The iconic West Highland White Terrier (Westie) has been a mainstay on Cesar packaging and is now a brand trademark. The Westie imagery reinforces Cesar's focus on small breed dogs and their particular nutritional needs. Cesar dry dog food was discontinued in 2020 as the company chose to focus on its popular wet food products. Cesar Canine Cuisine is positioned as gourmet wet dog food and treats for beloved small pets. Product formats include trays and pouches in various flavours and recipes. As part of Mars Petcare, Cesar sits alongside other leading pet food brands including Pedigree, Whiskas, Sheba, Iams, and Royal Canin. Mars Pet Nutrition now reaches over 400 million pet parents globally and comprises more than 50 brands spanning nutrition, health, and services for companion animals. Compare Cesar dog food prices across UK supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, and Morrisons with Grocefully to find the best deals on gourmet food for your small dog.
